Il meurt le 26 avril 1969 emporté par un cancer foudroyant "Son visage était vraiment beau comme le masque //nô// ((Le //nô// est l'un des styles de théâtre japonais traditionnel)) d’un vieil homme. Si on meurt du cancer, il y a habituellement beaucoup de souffrance et la douleur demeure sur le visage. Mais, ce n’était pas le cas avec //O senseï//. Il a gardé un visage divinement beau".
